Abstract

 “Plant ion homeostasis and dynamics is crucially dependent on root mediated uptake from the soil. Historically the consequences of ion over- or undersupply have been - for good reasons -largely studied in the context of long-term adaptation to specific soil types. However, since all ionic nutrients and toxic cations are taken up as solutes in water, fluctuations in soil water content result in frequent and pronounced variations of rhizospheric ion concentrations.”
