Assistant Specialist
(Posted October 8, 2018)

The department of Botany and Plant Sciences at UC Riverside invites applications for a fulltime Assistant Specialist position. The purpose of this position is to provide research support to ongoing projects focused on metabolomic profiling of plant stress responses. These analyses are utilized to uncover genes and biochemical pathways that are involved with and regulate adaptive responses. In addition, because of the evolutionarily conserved function of some of these metabolites, the position is designed to expand to analyses beyond plants to other organisms, such as malaria.  As such, in a collaborative effort with another lab at UCR, the candidate will be performing metabolic profiling to compare and contrast the organismal responses to stresses. This position therefore requires method development for targeted and untargeted metabolic analyses and is supported by an NIH grant focused on the metabolites that function as interorganellar communication signals for maintenance of organismal homeostasis in response to external inputs. The candidate will manage and maintain the gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer instruments in the lab and will be responsible for sample preparation and methods development for targeted metabolites and further technique development for untargeted metabolic analyses. The candidate must have a MS or equivalent, a minimum of 3 years of experience in metabolomics and knowledge of the analytical instrumentation. Experience with methods development for untargeted metabolomics are preferred.

To Apply: Application materials for this position should be submitted through https://aprecruit.ucr.edu/apply/JPF01015. Please provide a cover letter, full curriculum vitae, Statement of Research, Statement of Contributions to Diversity, and contact information for at least three references.

Review of applications will begin November 2, 2018. For more information about the position, please contact Dr. Wilhelmina Van de Ven (mien@ucr.edu).
